Due to circumstances beyond our control Jill Cook day was cancelled and it was decided to combine it with President's Day in order to raise funds for Rowans Hospice.
On the day there were 57 players and 14 others off the green taking part in some way shape or form.
Because of the extreme heat it was decided that the match would be played over 14 ends. The match resulted in a victory for the Ladies by 91 shots to 83.
To decide which rink had won the Jill Cook Trophy would normally have been straight forward as it would be the rink with the biggest shot difference. However, 2 rinks had the same difference so there was a count back to see who had won the most ends. As they both had won the same number of ends it was left to a contingency plan to decide the outcome. Both skips were called back onto the green to have a "shoot out". They were provided with 2 small carpet bowls each and asked to bowl to a small jack. The outcome was that the winner was Rink 4 comprising of Bill Hillyer, Andrew Patterson, Adrian Dyke and Jeff Passmore. This rounded off proceedings on the green quite nicely with the Ladies winning the match and the Gentlemen winning the Jill Cook Trophy.
After the match the players assembled in the clubhouse for their afternoon tea followed by presentations and a speech by Club President Trevor Reader. There had been a number of fund raising activities during the afternoon which led to over £1,000 being raised for Rowans Hospice. This was due to the generosity of those present who supported the club 100%.
Congratulations and many thanks should be give to all those members present plus the others who had worked behind the scenes but were not there on the day.
